Five areas where a relationship may be getting stuck
Marcela Gómez · Víctor Silva
When the relationship is still functioning, but you have started to stop finding each other.
When you talk a lot, but the conversation seems to produce the same experience again and again.
When you start wondering how much movement is really coming from both sides.
When there has been hurt, apologies or promises, but you still do not know what reality is showing afterward.
When you can both want the relationship and, even so, something important cannot be turned into a shared possibility.
These are not five types of couples or five diagnoses. You may recognize yourself in one, several, or none. The intention is to help you distinguish, not label your relationship.
Feeling distant does not prove that love is over. Talking a lot does not necessarily mean understanding each other. Doing more than the other person does not by itself prove there is no reciprocity. An apology can be sincere without trust having returned. And understanding your partner perfectly does not guarantee that every difference can become a shared reality.
Before trying something else, it may help to separate some of those questions.
It does not diagnose your relationship. It does not promise to save it. It does not try to decide who is right. It does not replace professional care when a situation requires it.
If there is fear for your safety or someone else’s safety at home, threats, coercion, violence, or control that limits your ability to decide or act freely, those situations need a different kind of attention and should not be reduced to a communication or relationship problem.

For years we have accompanied individuals and couples trying to understand what happens when loving, talking, making an effort, or wanting something to work no longer seems enough.
This guide comes from a simple idea: before looking for another technique, another conversation, or another attempt, it may be useful to look more precisely at what you are trying to solve.
